Hello! I'm Ridhima (goodluck pronouncing that), and this is my blog/website.
Born In India, raised in New Zealand, moved to Melbourne, Australia at the age of 21, and then to Toronto, Canada 1 and a half years later (yes, I cant stay put in one place), I've mastered the art of being poor all the time and cooking with ingredients I already have in my pantry!
Growing up with an over protective mother - she's very chilled now, and a very laid back dad who would encourage me to annoy my mom, I would do my best to piss her off by not wanting to eat what she had cooked. It's not my fault I had a great passion for cooking..well actually eating in general, and 15 years in to my life I got bored of Indian food 4 times a week - mind you, her cooking is AMAZING. She eventually gave up and let me cook my own food whenever I wanted (sometimes being stubborn pays off!). This is how I started to cook my own meals using whatever food she had already bought for the week, and as the years went on, I continued this style of cooking and now it's a part of my everyday life!
Having moved out of home from the age of 20 (this wasn't really my choice, my parents decided to ditch me, and leave me behind in New Zealand while they moved across the ditch to Australia), my bank account has always been on the low side, mainly because of my shopping addiction, the constant need to travel, and the generous side to my personality that comes out when I'm out with friends yelling 'Shots on me!', it's made me do my grocery shopping on a tight budget that doesn't go over $35, and has made me stick to this style of cooking by making use of the ingredients I already have. Don't get me wrong, I love cooking like this, especially when you end up creating something really delicious with ingredients you usually wouldn't use together!
I've always loved challenging myself in the kitchen, and now that I've moved to Toronto on my own where I didn't know a single person before arriving here, I've started life from scratch, I've reached a whole new level of 'poor', and the only cooking equipment I have are 2 frying pans and one oven tray. Cooking good food, that's healthy, and on a tight budget is simple, you don't need fancy equipment, all you need is passion, a few ingredients, and good music to sing to in the background!
You'll find all sorts of random recipes on my site that are all made by me. you'll also find the occasional unhealthy recipes because I do love junk food, and sometimes you've got to spoil yourself with treats!
